Sunday, August 31, 2008 First time in Miami!

Breakfast at the hotel, then some down time in the room waiting for Julio (Jerry's cousin) to pick us up at 11:00 a.m. After being picked up we went to get Maria, another cousin and then we got a personal tour of Miami. Our fist stop was the Everglades. I was surprised that Miami sprawl runs to the edge of the Everglades. There was a lot of marsh grass and wetlands, but not too many trees. After that we went to lunch at a Cuban restaurant with a French name: Versailles. It was in the area of town called "Little Cuba". The food was delicious and there was entertainment to boot! Our next stop was a state park with a very nice beach and a lighthouse. It was really pretty. Then we went to a shopping mall where you can come in on your boat or yacht, moor and shop. There was entertainment with a band and dancer and it was a really fun place. We all had a smoothie and enjoyed the music and people watching. Leaving there, we headed for Miami Beach, but so did the rest of Miami and traffic was gridlocked so as soon as we could we headed out of that mess and to the airport. It was Julio's birthday and we were very honored that he spent the entire day showing us around Miami. It was so much fun. We had such a good time!!!

We arrived at the airport about 8 p.m. and still had plenty of time for our flight as it did not leave until 1:15 a.m. Monday! Of course we had to be there at least 3 hours ahead of time as we were leaving the country so it was all perfect! There were places to eat and shop so we were entertained until it was time to board.

The first picture should actually be the last but....anyway, Jerry catching some shut eye waiting for our 1 a.m. departure. This is in Miami Airport.
Second picture is Jerry with his cousins Julio and Maria who live in Miami.
